Roleplaying is kind of simple. You post a thread with your character doing something to introduce themselves to the area, and then a staff member comes along and acts as some sort of NPC to liven up the area. It can be a trainer, a Pokemon, or something similar. Also, if you mention in the thread title, another user can come and join you for the time being. Remember that if 24 hours have passed since your last post in the thread and no one has replied, you can post again.
Battles are "anime-style." (However, Pokemon DO have levels.) This means that moves have no PP (Power Points); yes, that does mean that you can continuously use a move like Hyper Beam, but if you did your Pokemon would get very tired very quickly.
Keep track of your Pokemon's HP, and always be conscious of how much energy they used during a battle. If their health or stamina gets too low, they need to be taken do a Pokemon Center before they can fight again. Sure, if you leave them be for a long time, they'll rest and recover, but that takes a while. Pokemon Centers are definitely more efficient.
Pokemon gain one happiness point for every three roleplaying posts you make. Some things also affect happiness:
(If you have anything else to add to this list, please mention it to me)
Positive
Fed a berry they like: +1
The target of an item to heal HP or statuses: +2
Out of a Poke Ball for at least ten minutes every day (in the roleplay; the course of the day depends on the speed of your posts): +2 per day
Taken to a Pokemon Center within four posts of fainting: +2
Negative
Fed a berry they dislike: -1
Fed a bitter medicine (roots, powder, herbs): -1
In a Poke Ball for more than a day straight: -1
Not taken to a Pokemon Center within four posts of fainting: -2
It is not possible for a Pokemon to have negative happiness. The lowest number of happiness points one can possess is 0. If a Pokemon has less than 5 happiness points, it might flee to the Pound depending on whether it is willing to give you a second chance or not. Base happiness can be 35 or 70; it depends on the Pokemon. Rarer Pokemon tend to have base 35 happiness.
There are four categories for Pokemon found on Routes: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Super Rare. When generating random numbers, the Common group has a 55% chance to be picked, the Uncommon group has a 30% chance, and the Rare group can either have a 15% or 14.5% chance. In the case of the Rare group having a 14.5% chance, it means that the fourth group is present, Super Rare. Super Rare usually includes fully evolved or possibly legendary Pokemon; this group has a 0.5% chance to be picked. Pokemon in the wild have an equal chance of being at any of the levels listed in the Route, etc.
Pokemon in the wild and hatching from eggs have a 1 out of 255 chance to be shiny.
After you create your character, your bag includes:
3 Potions
3 Oran Berries
5 Poke Balls
A Cell Phone for calling friends when you get separated (this allows you to IC [in-character, as in during-the-roleplay] PM other members if you made friends with them during your journey... or just dial random numbers [this will probably get you in trouble]).
A PokeDex for identifying Pokemon
Here's the list of Pokemon egg hatching steps/posts. To check how many steps a Pokemon takes to hatch, look it up at veekun.com . Note: Magikarp is the only Pokemon that takes 1,280 steps to hatch.
(Steps to hatch (in-game) - Posts to hatch (LT))
1280 - 3
2560 - 6
3840 - 9
5120 - 12
6400 - 15
7680 - 18
8960 - 21
10240 - 24
All legendaries take 24 posts to hatch, so basically they need 10,240 steps to hatch. Fake Pokemon made up by me will be placed in their proper category (check this thread when some have been added).
The number of experience points a Pokemon needs to level up is equal to four times the Pokemon's level (regardless of species). For example, a level 1 Pokemon would need 4 experience points to level up, while a level 99 would need 396 experience points. When defeated, a Pokemon gives the number of experience points equal to its level to the un-fainted Pokemon. In Double Battles, the experience is split evenly between the two winning Pokemon (for example, if the defeated Pokemon was level 10, each Pokemon on the other side would get 5 experience points). Don't worry about asking a staff member to edit your profile (unless you fought against a non-staff member), since the one who battled with you will keep track. If you fought against a non-staff member, you can add the experience yourself.

If an HM move is needed to get past an area of the route, it will be mentioned in the Route Map. All that's needed to get past the area is a Pokemon that can learn the move in the HM; no need to buy it.
To calculate the number of Sea Coins a trainer must give up upon losing a battle, add together all the levels of the Pokemon used in the battle. If the challenger specifically mentions that the loser of the battle does NOT have to give money upon losing, this rule is negated.
